  • what a relief to hear a simple, plain background strumming - no other "production values" needed - for a moving song that just tells it like it is in a song about a National Guard volunteer in Iraq (not obvious from the title that this is the subject). No overt political stance other than what attaches to an expression, to me, of futility & weariness.
