About Me

Just when I thought we knew what Reggae was supposed to sound like… a fly ball goes out to left field in the form of Barbados singer songwriter David Kirton. His sound is a hybrid of reggae - rock - soul and pop that surprisingly…. still manages to be organic. Kirton and Rihanna were the big winners at the Barbados Music Awards 08 with Kirton bringing home the Reggae Artist of Year, Reggae Song of Year and Best Video (male) for hit song Green Camouflage, Rihanna won best video, female with mega hit ‘Shut up and Drive’.

David Kirton’s Universal Canada / Right Recordings UK debut release ‘Time for Change’  is a resounding success in the art of good music. Kirton’s approach is to get them dancing then ask questions later. Time for Change contains eleven well-crafted original songs including classic reggae anthems, melodic dance rhythms, soulful love songs and alternative pop guitar driven tracks.  Top songs include title track Time for Change, written prior to the coining of the phrase by DNC Presidential Candidate Barrack Obama, the message echoes the world’s currant momentum for change. Green Camouflage speaks of denial of basic human rights and was inspired by Kirton’s mentor and friend, the late Joseph ‘Culture’ Hill.  Sugar,  in Kirton’s world its not always sweet, surprises with a slamming poetry drop by CSI’s Gary Dourdan who also cameos as Kirton’s band in the Free to fly music video. Stand out love songs include Your Love Rocks and Romantic. A quick search on line reveals numerous music videos including Time for Change’ directed by two time Pulitzer and Sundance winner Tom Krueger.  Barbadian’s Chris Allman and De Red Boyz  top producers in the Southern Caribbean produced the Time for Change album. Caribbean artists such as Rihanna, Wycleff, Rupee and Machel Montano have lead the way breaking the glass ceiling set by the Jamaican reggae artists.  Home plate is wide open, tell the out field to be ready because it’s Kirton’s turn to bat.
