Rack-Lo, born George Billips grew up in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, NYC. He was raised and inspired by his father and uncle (Dr. Tango) a legendary Brownsville DJ on Hip Hop Culture. They introduced him to the culture by allowing young Rack-Lo to listen to the music before he was able to understand it. Hearing classic hip hop master pieces by the likes of; Kurtis Blow, Fat Boys, Run DMC, Erik B and Rakim, Just Ice, Public Enemy and BDP helped him make the decision of controlling the microphone, through what he calls “thief rap” accompanied by “hi-tec intellect”. A hip hop junkie since the early eighties, he realized that his desire to rock the mic and to be a internationally known as one of the best lyricist of all time was truly his destiny. Rack-Lo was always perceptive to be skillful at his lyrical craft and any other elements of hip hop culture he indulges in. For Rack-Lo the art of spitting all started as a result of his desire and liking to freestyle daily. Rhyming was something he did everyday all day. It was just cypher after cypher until he was completely drained. From day one of his career, Rack-Lo has elevated every step of the way.
To convey his art he incorporates real life/rack lo experiences, mixed with humor and politics, futuristic beats, rhymes and lo-life experience as his song writing crosses the lines of reality and imagination. His rhyme schemes and patterns are sharp enabling him to create untouchable flows and lyrics that stand the test of time.
In 1989, Rack-Lo met Shileena Perez his wife. They had no idea that their relationship would allow them to; live together, graduate college together, have a baby together, get married (August 99) and rip stages together. “Rack-Lo is the only Lo-Life to marry his Lo-Wife”. Currently, there is no other couple in hip hop that possess their level of energy and substance. Shileena aka Lo-Wife has been singing and chanting reggae songs for as long as she can remember. Lo-Wife possesses a soulful mahogany sound with a ghetto flair and she spit bringing her own element to the group. They knew they had a unique sound to offer hip hop. They made their skills of; rhyming, singing and song writing and created the group Lo-Life and Lo-Wife. Lo-Wife is featured on many songs throughout Rack-Lo’s music catalog since he first debuted with “Thou Shalt Not Steal”. Check out Lo-Wife on: Hangman, Lyrix, Remember The Times, Remember The Times (remix), Spit Factory Anthem, 1st Ladee Blues and the monumental song “Love iz Love” off the Rack Lauren LP. This was just the tip of the iceberg witness how they change the game on the new album “Aracknofoebia” The Art of Webslinging” Rack-Lo’s 3rd solo release featuring Lo-Wife. Together, Rack-Lo will continue to bang out exclusive hip hop blazing albums. As he started ripping mics in 1993, Rack-Lo embarked off into the independent hip hop economy back in 1997 where he has exposed, recorded, promoted, managed and released product through self sufficiency.
Although, he’s a recording maniac, Rack-Lo takes his abilities much further than just music. Besides being members of both the super rap group Spit Squodd and the legendary boostin b-boys the Lo-Lifes, he’s penning the Rack-Lo “Autobiography” his life story plus he’s one of the authors of the “Million Man Rush”, a second book that’s already completed. The Million Man Rush will actually consist of a collection of books, a full-length album,a documentary or film, a video game and a clothing line.
Not only has Rack-Lo evolved into a skilled spitter, but he also demonstrates a solid business acumen as well. He is front and center in Skillionaire Enterprises Inc. and he is CEO of his own company Spit Factory. Through his dynamic vision and understanding of hip hop politics globally, he has spearheaded Spit Factory/Skillionaire online sales efforts and World Wide Web presence through the creation of spitfactoryonline.com . Tymeless Tunes Entertainment specializes in R&B/Ballads, Gospel/Inspirational, Calypso, and Soca compositions. Kcey’s musical influences include: Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Boyz II Men, Tony Rich, R. Kelly to name a few.
Tymeless Tunes’ most recent accomplishments include the release of a CD entitled “Reminiscence” in 1999, which featured a compilation of songs in various genres performed by local artists such as: Deridee Williams – locally renowned Jazz & R&B vocalist, Minelius Anthony – band leader & lead vocalists of a resident band on a popular cruise line, Nigel “Kingfish” Larcher – former lead vocalist of a popular reggae band in the late ‘80’s/early 90’s, Lady Leen (popularly renowned in the Calypso arena, who in 2006 celebrated her sixteen year anniversary) and Selwyna Charles – former lead vocalist of local band: “Future Lights” and now lead vocalist and band leader of “Family Affair”. We have since secured Publisher Membership with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and Writer membership with the Hewannorra Musical Society (HMS).
Over the past years Tymeless Tunes have collaborated with other performers and music producers namely: Christopher Neil (Den Music Studios), Carlos St. Omer (JVC Productions), Angus Christopher of the (Royal St. Lucia Police Band) and Miss Bliss Music in Mississippi, USA. These works include the release of several singles in various musical genres.
Future projects include the release of other potential and popular singles, Calypsoes and the publication of a book of poems. As well as tentatively sooner a compilation of prominent Calypso singles such as the ever popular “medicine chest article”: “I Go Want (My Viagra)” (released in 2005) - performed by this company’s first “official calypso offspring” Nathaniel “Humble” Stanislas. “A King’s Biography” (Tribute to Pep) - in recognition of one of St. Lucia’s most decorated Calypsonians who in 2006 celebrated his 20th anniversary. “One Caribbean Anthem”; (one of the unique undertakings acknowledging the efforts of our Caribbean leaders in the implementation of the Caricom Single Market & Economy) and the soon expected: “Of Paradise D-Lite” (Simply Beautiful) a calypso flavoured track promoting the island of St. Lucia as the ultimate tourist destination as well as the most recent “Karaoke Kraze” – the official “karaoke anthem” to name a few.
Tymeless Tunes continues to make contributions to “Kaiso Headquarters”, a Calypso competition held annually amongst the rank and file of the Royal St. Lucia Police Force as well as to the national Junior Calypso Competition.
Towards the end of 2008 work commenced on the redo (by popular request) of several of the most prominent tracks from the first album. The first single: “Reminiscing” which is performed by Steve Parker a well travelled and experienced vocalist, also features the acclaimed vocalist, arranger and songwriter Kellis “Qshan Deya” Quashie who laced the harmonies and background, will be released towards the end of January 2009. Music arranged by band leader and producer Sam Epiphane of Total Earth Movement (T.E.M.) band at Bomb drop Studios, Monchy, St. Lucia.
